About Us
Freedom House, established in 1985 as a statewide nonprofit organization with sites in Hunterdon, Morris and Warren counties, operates a multi-phase long-term residential treatment program for adult males who are recovering from alcohol and drug addiction and who are at high risk of relapse without further treatment.
Our staff is comprised of highly motivated team members, each bringing their own professional training and experience, as well as personal recovery stories to Freedom House making it a model recovery program.

Fred T. Reihl was appointed to the position
of Executive Director of Freedom House in
November of 1990. He became Freedom
House’s first Chief Executive Officer in
1997.
Prior to his appointment he spent two years
as the Director of a social setting detox
center run by the Bergen County Department
of Health. From 1984-1988, Mr. Reihl
was employed as Director of Addiction
Services for King James Care Centers. His
responsibilities included the supervision
of services, as well as the acquisition and
development of new programs.
Mr. Reihl has also developed and administrated
an outpatient program for a major
hospital, served as Executive Director of an
affiliate office of the National Council on Alcoholism,
created an alcohol detoxification
unit for the City of Newark and established
the Law Enforcement Alcoholism Program
for police officers.
He attended Seton Hall University from
1960-1966 a combination of days, evenings
and summers while supporting himself
as a teamster truck driver. He graduated
with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Elementary Education and spent 4 years
as a teacher.
His post graduate work was done at Newark
State College where he earned a Masters
Degree in Public School Administration.
After receiving his degree he spent 3 years
as an assistant principal of an elementary
school.
Mr. Reihl has run his own real estate
agency, new home construction business
and has worked in marketing for a major
housing manufacturer.
He has served as the Chairman of the
National Halfway House Association
Convention. Mr. Reihl has also served
as a consultant to numerous treatment
programs and as a member of the Board
of Trustees of Little Hill Alina Lodge.
Mr. Reihl was appointed by Governor
Whitman as the first member of the State
of New Jersey New Alcohol and Drug
Counselors Licensing Committee.
Mr. Reihl is a member of The Rutgers
Summer School of Alcohol Studies faculty.
In May of 2003, Mr. Reihl was honored
by Sunrise House for his outstanding
contribution to the field. In April of 2004,
he was one of the first four counselors to
become a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and
Drug Counselor in New Jersey.
Mr. Reihl’s personal recovery from alcoholism
in 1976 is what inspired him to
enter the treatment field in 1978. He has
one son and two grandchildren. |

Patricia Reihl became Executive Director
of The Family Afterward on March 1,
1999.
Mrs. Reihl has worked in the substance
abuse treatment field since 1977. She
began her career as a counselor in a social
setting detox. She later worked as a
nurse in a residential treatment program.
After working as a counselor in a hospital
based outpatient program for a short time,
she developed and directed a special
tract for female clients.
In 1981 Pat became Director of Spring
House, a female halfway house in Paramus,
New Jersey. During her tenure, she
took the program from the brink of closing
to the largest female halfway house in
the State of New Jersey. Spring House
serves today as a national and international
model. Mrs. Reihl has returned
many women to the world as sober, productive
members of society.
Mrs. Reihl has been a positive role model
for the women she serves. After her own
recovery from alcoholism in 1970, she
studied to be a nurse.
She returned to college after securing
her nurse’s license and completed her
Bachelor’s Degree. She then returned to
school again and completed a Master’s
Program.
Pat served as President of the New Jersey
Association of Halfway Houses for six
years. In 1995 she was elected to a two
year term as President of the National
Association of Halfway Houses. During
her tenure as National President, she
brought the National Convention to New
Jersey; assisted five states in creating
associations, and raised membership in
the association to an all-time high.
She has served on numerous national
committees and represented halfway
houses on a sub-committee of the American
Society of Addictive Medicine. She
is a member of the faculty at the Rutger’s
Summer School of Alcohol Studies and
has instructed professionals across the
country and Europe.
Pat served as a board member of the
New Jersey Association of Treatment
Providers and has organized a non-profit
group whose mission is to save the building
where the book “Alcoholics Anonymous”
was written. In October of 1998
she was awarded the “Employee of the
Year Achievement Award” by the Bergen
County Department of Health presented
by County administration.
Pat’s interests include sunning, running
and gunning, as well as improving her golf
game. She has raised three children and
now enjoys her grandchildren. |

RICHARD L. SPAEDT, J.D., C.P.A.

Richard L. Spaedt brings to Freedom
House over 40 years of experience
as a certified public accountant and
lawyer. His division handles all of the
financial matters for Freedom House,
Inc., The Family Afterward women
and children’s program, and Freedom
House Foundation.
Mr. Spaedt began his professional career
practicing law in Omaha, Nebraska
with an emphasis on tax, corporation
and not for profit law. He moved
to New York City in 1967 and worked
for 10 years as tax manager in charge
of the small business tax department
for an international accounting firm. In
his tenure at this position, Mr. Spaedt
was a member of a Washington task
force participating in a study on not for
profit organizations.
In 1976, Mr. Spaedt became vice president
in charge of tax and financial planning
for Executive Money Management
Inc., in New York City. From 1983 to
1997, Mr. Spaedt was a self-employed
consultant specializing in tax and financial
planning services.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree
from the University of Nebraska
and earned his Juris Doctorate from
the University of Nebraska, College of
Law. He is a member of the Nebraska
State Bar Association and holder of a
Nebraska CPA certificate. He has also
completed over 180 credits towards a
certified alcohol and drug counselor
(CADC) certificate.
Mr. Spaedt and his wife, Holly, live in
Budd Lake, Morris County and have
five children. |

GALINDO L. KING, MHS, CADC.
Clinical Director

Glenn King became Clinical Director at
Freedom House in 2001. Prior to that, he
was Senior Counselor. He is responsible
for the clinical operation of the program
and serves as a supervisor for the counselors
at Freedom House. Mr. King is
also a graduate of the Freedom House
substance abuse treatment program and
passes along his life experiences and
wisdom to the residents of the house.
Prior to his position at Freedom House,
Mr. King worked for the New Jersey
Association on Corrections serving as
program supervisor for a male/female
halfway house for pre-release parolees.
In his role, Mr. King oversaw the daily
operations of the program, supervised
staff and clients, implemented program
activities, recruited and interviewed
employees and monitored program effectiveness
and expenditures.
Mr. King has worked as a consultant for
the State of New Jersey Intensive Supervision
Program (I.S.P.) since 1993. He is
responsible for providing assessments,
consultation, group and individual counseling
sessions to participants.
From 1979 to 1987, Mr. King served in
the United States Army 82nd Airborne
Division at Fort Bragg, First Ranger Battalion
at Fort Stewart and Drill Instructor
at Fort Dix.
He received many commendations and
awards during his service including
Achievement and Commendation medals
and Sharpshooter badges.
Mr. King has received a master’s degree
in human services from Lincoln University
in Pennsylvania. He is a member of Pi
Gamma Mu, an international honor society
in social sciences.
Mr. King is currently a doctoral student
at the University of Phoenix, where he is
pursuing a Doctorate degree in Organizational
Management and Leadership. He
has taken courses at the Deeper Training
Institute in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, towards
his biblical counselor certification.
He is a member of The Greater Shiloh
Church, located in Easton, Pennsylvania,
and serves as a group leader of “God Will
Change Your Life,” a ministry for recovering
addicts.
Mr. King also gives back to the community
by helping community members’
access substance abuse treatment, jobs
and housing. He has coordinated and
participated in several projects for New
Jersey and Pennsylvania non-profit organizations.
Mr. King and his wife Tina live in Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania and have four
children. |
